Job Description

Our client is a clinical-stage gene therapy company that develops next generation therapies using their highly flexible platform and manufacturing process. Their pre-clinical vector design group employs high-throughput screening in disease-relevant models and machine learning to engineer new AAV-based gene therapies for diseases of the muscle and central nervous system. We are searching for a curious individual who is comfortable multitasking while working on various aspects of the platform. In this role, you will be an essential part of an interdisciplinary team that works to advance novel therapies to the clinic. This position provides a unique opportunity to support the development of state-of-the-art gene therapies, with the potential to positively affect millions of people worldwide. Under the guidance of Senior Scientists, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing brain and muscle cell-culture based models and using them to validate novel gene therapies. The successful candidate will also collaborate with other team members to perform various in vivo techniques and to establish new assays as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the optimization and execution of differentiation protocols to generate iPSC-derived cell types.
  • Use and maintain mammalian cell cultures including primary cell models.
  • Perform various biological techniques including fluorescence microscopy, nucleic acid isolation, Western blotting, PCR-based techniques, and molecular cloning.
  • Develop, execute, and troubleshoot novel assays as required.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve milestones, particularly on in vivo experiments including behavioral studies, drug administration, and tissue collection.
  • Contribute to the organization and maintenance of laboratory space, inventory, and supplies.
  • Maintain precise experimental records and lab documentation in an electronic notebook.
  • Effectively communicate progress and findings to colleagues within and across groups.

Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related life sciences field and 1-2 years of industry experience.
  • A strong understanding of advanced mammalian cell culture techniques including IPSCs.
  • Proficiency with at least 3 of the following: cell-based assays, DNA/RNA extraction for NGS applications, ELISA, western blot, qPCR, ddPCR, flow cytometry.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • In vivo rodent experience is strongly preferred. Prior experience with Neuroscience, muscle biology, or AAV biology is a bonus.
