Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Vice President or Executive Director of Clinical Operations to lead our client’s clinical program(s). Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will play a critical leadership role in overseeing clinical trial execution, contributing to program strategy and design, and ensuring successful delivery of development plans. Title will be commensurate with experience and the ability to operate at a highly strategic level within clinical development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Leadership:
- Lead the clinical operations function, including internal team members and external CRO partners, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Trial Strategy & Execution:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and management of clinical trials, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Provide strategic input into protocol development and overall trial design.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure all studies are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, GCP standards, and ethical guidelines.
Risk & Operational Management:
- Identify operational risks proactively and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful trial outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner closely with regulatory, medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, CMC, and commercial teams to integrate clinical strategy into broader corporate objectives.
External Partnerships:
- Manage relationships with CROs, investigators, and key opinion leaders to ensure strong execution and collaboration across all trial activities.
Data & Budget Oversight:
- Provide input into clinical data analysis and interpretation while managing budgets and resources effectively to optimize performance and return on investment.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS, MS, or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive clinical operations experience within biotech or pharmaceutical organizations
- Clinical development experience through Phase 3, ideally including participation in a drug approval
- Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams and managing external partners
- Deep knowledge of clinical trial design, execution, and global regulatory requirements
- Strong executive presence with excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills
- Strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges and drive innovative solutions
