Job Description

The Associate Director of Medical Information and Review is a key leader within the Medical Communications team and Medical Affairs organization, contributing to strategic initiatives, participating in product launches, and ensuring operational excellence. This role is responsible for leading the development and dissemination of high-quality scientific and medical content across diverse communication channels, collaborating effectively with internal teams, vendors, and external partners. The Associate Director will establish and report on key performance metrics to Senior Leadership, manage documentation and systems for medical information and material review responsibilities, and cultivate cross-functional collaborations to achieve organizational objectives.

Essential Job Functions:
Content Development and Management:
  • Lead the creation, maintenance, and delivery of high-quality medical and scientific content, including Standard and Custom Response Letters, Clinical Dossiers, FAQs, and Compendia submissions.
  • Proactively address critical issues, such as product shortages or name changes, and craft medical responses for scientific journals and organizations.
  • Oversee vendor and partnership activities for dossier updates, ensuring quality and compliance.
Promotional Review and Approval:
  • Rigorously review promotional materials for scientific accuracy.
  • Grant formal approval of cross-functional promotional review activities and coordinate the development of clinical data to support claims.
Medical Information Leadership:
  • Direct and mentor Medical Information Contact Center staff, including managing complex escalations.
  • Foster professional growth by mentoring interns, students, and team members.
  • Offer advanced support at product booths during scientific meetings and train commercial colleagues on addressing complex inquiries, as assigned or requested
  • Participates and contributes to assigned Medical Affairs, Leadership, and Cross-Functional meetings, special projects, and initiatives as assigned.
  • As assigned or needed responds to unsolicited requests for information in real-time, virtual or in-person. 
Medical Material Review:
  • Review and approve medical education materials, scientific slides, manuscripts, and other internal content as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • The qualified candidate will have a doctoral degree in a health science related field such as a PharmD, MD or Ph.D., with a thorough grasp of the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Qualified candidate should have prior experience in providing medical information services for the pharmaceutical industry, prior experience in serving as a medical reviewer in both promotional and/or medical material review, and have a firm understanding of Medical Information and Medical Affairs practices within the pharmaceutical industry. 
  • 3-5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs following award of doctoral degree including a minimum of 2 years of medical communications/medical information experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Possesses advanced communication skills, both oral and written, and able to engender trust and respect of peers, subordinates, and superiors.
  • Well-versed in highly technical and scientific languages to communicate with key Thought Leaders, Medical Affairs, Research and Development, as well as other key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work within matrix organization, mentor staff, and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated decision-making capabilities and results orientation in meeting objectives.
  • Proven track record of teamwork, leadership, timely decision making and results orientation in meeting objectives.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Power BI, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity and experience with Veeva and other related tools utilized in Medical Affairs
  • Ideal for position to be in the Chicago headquarters location for time of service; Remote work is permitted with goal to be present in office at least once a month and/or as requested for business needs
  • Position may require periodic evening and weekend work, as necessary to fulfill obligations. Periodic overnight travel.
