Job Description


The Research Associate will perform analytical chemistry and biophysical methods for the testing of AAV gene therapy products, to support process development and product characterizations.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform UV, HPLC, SV-AUC and CE-based methods to quantitatively measure the purity of the AAV gene therapy vectors and support process development.
  • Assess and implement new analytical platforms, such as DLS, SEC-MALS, etc., to determine AAV capsid identity, quality, and quantity.
  • Investigate and evaluate cutting edge biophysical and analytical instrumentation.
  • Write, prepare and present technical data, technical reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for internal use and transfer to external sites.
  • Provide technical support to cross-function groups and external collaborators.

Requirements / Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline with relevant lab experience. 1-2 years of industry experience is preferred.
  • HPLC/UPLC experience analyzing nucleic acids, virus capsids, antibodies and/or other biologics materials by a variety of chromatographic methods (RP, SEC, IEX, SEC/FFF-MALS)
  • Experience with SV-AUC analyzing Viral vectors or proteins is preferred.
  • Experience with CE-SDS and cIEF, for the analysis of biological materials is desired.
  • Working experience in viral particle analysis is highly desired.
  • Excellent laboratory, computer, documentation, and organization skills
  • Strong collaborative work ethic and excellent time management skills for ongoing testing in parallel with new method development, in a fast-paced, scientifically rigorous, cross-functional team environment

Physical Demands/Work Environment/Safety Considerations:
  • Stand for extended periods of time with periodic stooping/bending / kneeling.
  • Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs
  • Climb ladders and stairs of various heights.
  • Work in a lab environment requiring special protective clothing over the face, hands, feet, and body. This role requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment. Certain tasks may necessitate the use of extra personal protective equipment if deemed necessary.
  • Certain tasks may require use of a respirator; medical clearance will be required in advance.
