Job Description


The Vice President, Business Development will partner with our Client’ s commercial and research & development functions to establish business development strategies, effectively identify and evaluate prospective partners globally, and successfully negotiate and close transactions that are in alignment with and critical to corporate strategy and goals. This individual will leverage his/her successful deal experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry to identify, prioritize, value, and execute transactions.  This role is key to growing the Company’ s business via alliances and strategic deals. 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Define and lead global business development strategies and activities including the assessment of external partnership and/or M&A opportunities.
  • Closely collaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., clinical, regulatory, manufacturing, commercial, finance, etc.) to drive business opportunities to a transactional stage.
  • Identify development and commercialization partnerships for markets outside the US
  • Build formulation and development partnerships involving the out-licensing to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies of our Client’ s formulation technology platforms.
  • Target acquisitions and in-licensing transactions to broaden our company’ s product portfolio and/or capabilities.
  • Lead all transaction-related search processes, financial analysis, valuation, deal structuring, negotiations, and contracting in conjunction with the Legal and Finance teams and the coordination of internal resources for due diligence.
  • Present regular updates to Executive Management and Board of Directors
  • Actively participate at conferences and partnering events by presenting Company products and technology platforms.
  • Maintain a broad global network of relationships in the biopharmaceutical industry including business development contacts and other contacts at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
  • Monitor market development and business intelligence to determine appropriate partnership, licensing, and acquisition opportunities and identify potential partners to target.

Requirements / Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in business, science, or related field required; MS or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or drug delivery industry experience of which at least 10 years is business development, licensing, or corporate development experience.  Experience in healthcare investment banking, consulting, venture capital, or equity analysis may be considered as well.
  • Established contacts in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries
  • Proven success in sourcing and executing transactions including having led interactions with target companies
  • Proven successful execution of complex and global deal negotiations, evidenced by a track record of sourcing and/or executing transactions with entities outside the US
  • An impressive “ deal sheet” that details successful completion of a variety of transactions, such as in- and out-licensing transactions, product and/or company acquisitions, co-promotion deals, and development and commercialization partnerships
  • Up to 25% national and international travel
