Our client is seeking a highly motivated and talented Director, Translational Research to lead their Biomarker strategy and implementation effort. This is a leadership position responsible for the development of a comprehensive biomarker strategy and the execution of that strategy through biomarker discovery, early development, and transfer to clinical development. The Director will be responsible for building and managing a team of translational scientists to explore and implement biomarkers of clinical relevance (diagnostic, predictive, prognostic, pharmacodynamic and safety). This individual will work with other senior management to develop a translational biomarker strategy and will be accountable for biomarker discovery and assay development; management of CROs and external biomarker research; and technical transfer to support clinical development.

In this highly collaborative matrix role, with extensive cross-functional interactions across the discovery and development continuum, the Director will ensure the seamless development and integration of a biomarker strategy to support all client programs. The successful candidate will have experience supporting pre-clinical research combined with a strong understanding of biomarker strategies for early clinical hypothesis testing. The Director will have a track record of both laboratory research success and team leadership in biotech/pharma industry. Responsibilities:
  • Provide scientific leadership for the development and implementation of the biomarker strategy across client’ s therapeutic programs
  • Oversee generation, management, analysis and interpretation of biomarker data utilizing state of the art technologies and approaches
  • Support preclinical target identification and prioritization, mechanism of action studies, candidate selection, and clinical development to guide indication selection, patient enrichment, and combination strategies
  • Build and maintain strong collaborations with key external scientific partners to incorporate external expertise and maximize the generation of scientifically robust biomarker data to accelerate our programs Remain informed about the most up to date methods and concepts in preclinical and clinical biomarkers and assays
  • Participate in the cross-functional Leadership Team to provide leadership across the organization
  • Contribute to high quality regulatory submissions
  • Effectively communicate strategy and findings to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Maintain a working environment that is highly collaborative and actively engaged

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • PhD (or equivalent advanced degree) with 8+ years of industry experience in drug development, with a background in oncology or immune oncology research
  • Knowledge of, and hands-on experience with cutting edge biomarker technologies including FACS, ELISA, Nanostring, DNA and RNA sequencing, protein mass spectrometry, CyTOF, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and circulating tumor cell platforms
  • Experience with DNA damage response and/or synthetic lethality is a significant plus
  • Significant experience with outsourcing and managing external R&D partnerships
  • Demonstrated creativity and novel approaches to problem? solving, with a history of innovation in the biomarker space
  • Demonstrated success in team leadership positions
  • Working knowledge of GxP practices related to biomarker analysis
  • Proven track record of scientific accomplishment as evidenced by publication history, patent inventorship, contribution to successful drug development programs, and/or peer recognition
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with both internal and external teams
