Our client is seeking a highly-motivated and entrepreneurial individual to lead new product planning (NPP) efforts for their programs. The Director of New Product Planning will assume a highly visible role to provide market insights for preclinical and early clinical programs. This position offers the candidate the opportunity to significantly contribute to the long-term commercial success of the portfolio through close collaboration with R&D, business development, key opinion leaders and patient care/advocacy organizations.

Responsibilities:
  • Key roles for the NPP lead include:
    • Serve as the NPP lead for a program which is advancing towards Phase 1 clinical development
    • Serve as the NPP representative for programs to guide development of target product profiles and to support key program decisions
    • Liaise with BD team to align R&D pipeline opportunities with BD priorities
  • Provide strategic leadership to program core teams to maximize program value; ensure integration of commercial and cross-function perspectives into research, clinical and commercial plans
  • Conduct market assessments to support key program decisions, which may include disease etiology, epidemiology, segmentation, current and future unmet needs, competitive intelligence, market forecasts and other clinical and commercial considerations
  • Work closely with internal and external experts to translate key market and scientific insights into clear, actionable strategies for the franchise or programs
  • Liaise closely with patient advocacy lead to establish patient networks and to design/execute/analyze patient registry or natural history study
  • Track and understand oncology and RGD market trends from a commercial, managed markets, clinical, and scientific perspective and stay up to date with market developments and changes in competitive landscape
  • Develop revenue and unit forecasts to support portfolio planning initiatives and production plans
  • Drive specific oncology and RGD TA or franchise assessments to inform BD investment decisions
  • Participate in key scientific and patient conferences related to company programs
  • Develop and update competitive intelligence tools for business insights
  • Prepare and present product planning plan and assessments to senior management
  • Contribute to the long-term commercial strategy and ensure early R&D activities are in line with global franchise strategies

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant business experience in pharmaceutical/biotech
  • Advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MD) is preferred
  • Oncology or Rare Disease experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge, experience and proven track record of gaining deep scientific, patient and market understanding to deliver concise insight to R&D decisions
  • Must have great enthusiasm for collaborating closely with R&D members in a high-science environment and contributing to seamless integration of NPP, R&D, BD, commercial and all key functions
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills to multi-task in an extremely fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and leadership skills to influence across multiple functions
